Develop Your Personalized PLN (Professional Learning Network)
Tuesday, August 17 • 8:30 - 11:30 AM
Fred Koch
With all the Internet has to offer, teachers often feel overwhelmed. How can we possibly keep up to date on education issues and best practices when there is so much information out there? Many teachers are harnessing the information monster by setting up their PLN with the help of two tools designed to help stay organized and on top of current developments.
Google Reader brings self-selected information directly to you and Delicious is an online bookmarking application that is "social" (will explain) and because it is online, it is available from any computer at any time.
A PLN is a "must have" for 21st century teachers!

Where do you start looking for Educational Blogs? Check out these resources:
1. Mrs. Smoke's "Educational Blogs You Should Be Investigating" blog post - a well organized list with categories (1st grade, principals, etc.)
2. Support Blogging! - a wiki style site "to help promote an understanding of the benefits of educational blogging." Click on the List of Bloggers! (in the left side panel) and use the Table of Contents (right side of page) to see all the blogs.
3. Bloggers To Learn From (http://snulr.com23szh) - David Warlick states (in his book Redefining Literacy), "This is a Wiki page where a community of educators has collaborated to compile a categorized list of favorite edubloggers."
4. Education Blogger List (http://www.livemocha.com/pages/resources/education-blog-list) - again from David Warlick, "an ordered list based on each blogger's Technorati's Authority Index, a value calculated from the number of other bloggers who link to the listed blog."
